Wallpaper Removal.

Wallpaper Removal is really difficult work even for a professional that does it for a leaving since different contractors used different kinds of glues to install the wallpaper, sometimes it will come off easy and sometimes the wallpaper will come off the wall in little pieces as little as less than an inch, sometimes even taking little pieces of drywall with it, this makeS it a labor-intensive and time-consuming job.

But you do not have to live with the wallpaper in your property like is 1970, we can help you remove it, repair the walls, do a texture to match the surrounding walls or do a new drywall texture, prime and paint it, leaving it looking like the walls are brand new.

What can you expect when we do Wallpaper Removal.

  1. Before starting any work everything has to be protected like the floors will be covered with heavy-duty plastic or construction paper and plastic will be used in any furniture, doors, windows, trim, etc., if needed a curtain of plastic can be used to block the dust from going outside the work area like in a leaving room or a kitchen, always trying to keep everything as clean as possible.
  2. The Wallpaper will be perforated using a tool that makeS tiny holes, after this wallpaper will be sprayed with a wallpaper removal liquid, the tiny holes are needed in order for the liquid to go behind the wallpaper and loosen the glue.
  3. After a few minutes and once the wallpaper removal liquid do its work the wallpaper will be removed from the wall, some times brown drywall paper or little pieces of drywall will come with the wallpaper and this is normal and will be repaired in the next step.
  4. The wall will be skim-coated this is to apply a layer of drywall mud to the whole area in order to cover the tiny holes, scratches, drywall damage and to cover small amounts of wallpaper glue that is left after the wallpaper removal, let it dry and sand it, if this step is not done there is a risk that the glue left behind and you can not see will not let the paint stick to the surface well and a possibility of future cracking or peeling of the paint.
  5. The new texture will be done, we can match the walls, ceilings or if you want a different texture we can do it too.
  6. If the new texture used is the Skip Trowel Texture it needs to be sanded after is dry to erase tool marks, rough and uneven spots and after a couple of days it will be ready for Primer and Paint.
  7. If the new texture is something like an Orange Peel or Knock Down they only need to dry and they will be ready to be primed and painted.
  8. If you want us to do the Primer and Paint we can do it too.
  9. After the work is finished the protection will be removed and the area will be cleaned.

We do not have a set price for Wallpaper Removal since there are many factors to take into account to be able do the work like:

  • How high are the walls.
  • What kind of wallpaper is in the wall (plastic, paper, mixed, etc).
  • How much furniture is in the work area or is the place empty.
  • In what areas is the Wallpaper Removal needed in the kitchen, bathroom, etc.
  • What kind of texture do you want after the wallpaper is removed.
  • Do you want us to prime and paint the walls.

Most people do not know but what we call wallpaper is not always made of paper, but sometimes is actually made of a semi-plastic sheating, when the wallpaper covering was used the clients could choose between these materials so based on these new facts.

The easiest way to remove wallpaper will be to pull a loose corner of the wallpaper and if you are lucky and semi-plastic wallpaper was used in your property it will come off easy without ripping it, even if you do not use any tool to make holes in the surface or liquid to loosen it.

Even if you are lucky and it comes off easy a lot of work is still needed before the surface is ready for paint since a skim coat (cover the surface with drywall compound) will be needed to hide imperfections and all the glue that was used to install the wallpaper and a drywall texture, prime and paint will be needed too.

If you pull the wallpaper and it breaks really easy and comes off just in little pieces then all the regular steps are needed to do the work like makes holes in all the surfaces, apply a wallpaper loosener, remove the wallpaper little piece by little piece, etc.

Yes before any work is started the work area will be protected like furniture, doors, windows, trim, carpet, etc.

Is not recommended to Paint or do a Drywall Texture on top of the wallpaper because in areas where the wallpaper is not perfectly glued to the wall some amount of paint or drywall mud will get behind and cause a bubble and sometimes it will just loosen it from the wall.

Most of the time that we have seen this done you can tell that it was painted for the straight marks where pieces of wallpaper meet, but it has been done.

If you want us to do it this way there will be no warranty that in the future some pieces of the wallpaper will start coming loose and with it the texture or paint that was done.

Since this is really hard and dirty work we recommend to always do it the right way removing the wallpaper from the wall, fixing imperfections, new texture, prime and paint.

Yes you can schedule the Wallpaper Removal for any time that you want, because if the removal is in an area like the kitchen you are not going to be able to use it for the duration of the job.

No, we do not install wallpaper since most people do not like it and wallpaper is considered outdated so there is little installation being done.

Yes we can Prime and Paint the walls after the wallpaper removal, we can use the primer and paint supplied by you or we can go to the store and buy the color that you like.
