Walls and Ceilings Re-texture.

Yes your walls and ceilings can be re-textured even if they have been textured before, it does not matter how bad they look right now we can do it.

We do a lot of Walls and Ceilings re-texture because is the easiest way to give a new look and feel to a place, new owners sometimes contact us to do the Re-texturing in their new properties before they move in so everything is nice and fresh when they move all the furniture inside and this way the price will be a little cheaper since we do not have to protect everything to do the work, but if you have a place fully furnished the work can still be done.

Over 90% of the re-texturing that we do is to the new Skip Trowel Texture that is the most popular and only one used in new construction right now and the only times that we use a different one is when we have to match it to a surrounding area like the walls if we are doing only the ceiling.

We service Summit, Eagle Counties and surrounding areas including Breckenridge, Blue River, Keystone, Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon, Copper, Vail, Eagle-Vail, Avon, Edwards, Etc.

Please give us a call or send us an email If you need the walls or ceilings re-textured for any reason like outdated, not done right, damaged, etc, and want the work done right, please give us a call 970-457-7292 or send us an Email we will be happy to go in person and give you a free estimate.

To do Walls and Ceilings Re-texture the following steps are needed.

  1. Before starting any work if only the ceilings have to be re-textured the walls have to be protected with plastic if they are not going to be painted later, everything has to be protected like plastic will be used in any furniture, doors, windows, trim, etc., the floors will be covered with construction paper, tarps or plastic and if needed plastic can be used to block the dust from going outside the work area like into a kitchen, leaving room, etc., always trying to keep the property as clean as possible.
  2. The area that we need to re-texture will be skim-coated ( Apply 1 or 2 coats of drywall compound as needed in the whole area to cover the old texture and then when is dry it will be sanded, leaving the surface ready for a new drywall texture).
  3. After the Skim Coating is dry and sanded the new drywall texture will be done, it can be the new Skip Trowel Texture or a texture that you like and we can match the surrounding areas if needed.
  4. After the new drywall texture is dry if the texture that was used is the Skip Trowel Texture it will be sanded to erase little tool marks and imperfections from the drywall mud shrinking and uneven areas.
  5. If you want we can Prime and Paint the walls and ceilings too.
  6. After the work is finished all the protection that was used to do the work will be removed and the area cleaned.

Beautiful work in Summit County Colorado, they re-textured the walls that used to have an old texture from the 70's, after the primer and paint they look awesome, I am happy that I did it before moving all my furniture inside, it was easier for them.

Frequently asked questions that we get when doing Walls and Ceilings Re-texture.

We do not have a set price for any re-texture because there are a few factors to take into account for the work like:

  • How big is the area that needs re-texture.
  • how high is the area.
  • What drywall texture is in the walls or ceilings now.
  • Is the place fully furnished or empty.
  • Is primer and paint needed too.

We can go in person to check this details, a few more and give you a free estimate Please Call (970) 457-7292 or send us an Email info@SierraConstruction.Com.Co

No, no texture can be done over the existing drywall texture, we have to skim coat (cover the entire surface with drywall compound, let it dry and sand it ) the walls or ceilings and then do the new texture.

In the case of the hand made Skip Trowel Texture it has little shapes inside that show the surface under it and if the old drywall texture is not erased you will see it inside the shapes.

In the case of other textures it will look bad, is better to start from a semi-smooth surface before the new texture is done.

The most popular drywall texture is the Skip Trowel Texture and we always recommend it for the following reasons.

  1. Our clients always like it and the only one that is been used right now in new contruction.
  2. It looks really nice and way better than the older ones done with a machine.
  3. If in the future you decide to sell your property is the only one that is going to show that it has been remodeled or built recently, giving you better value for your money.
  4. If this is a place that you are going to rent and you want to do your own drywall repairs in the future this texture is easier to match since is random shapes instead of the uniform looking texture done with a machine.

No, actually trying to leave the walls or ceilings smooth is more work than to do a drywall texture and will be more expensive for the following reasons.

  1. When the old texture is light with only one skim coat is enough to erase it and after a light sanding is ready for a new texture but if you want to leave the walls or ceilings smooth around 2 more coats will be needed since even small pin holes or scratches have to be erased since there will be no texture to blend with the small imperfections.
  2. Wood framing is never perfect in this area, sometimes you will see studs in the wall bending the drywall out or inside and is really difficult to completely hide this big imperfections and sometimes is just impossible.
  3. A smooth wall will show even the smallest of imperfections when natural light hit it like from a window.

Is for this reasons that we do not offer the service of leaving the walls or ceilings smooth.

In this area smooth walls or ceilings are not popular or used, only clients coming from states that use only smooth walls ask for them and after they learn that this kind of work is not popular here they are happy to do a drywall texture.

Yes in fact is what we most recommend if the place is fully furnished because you are not going to be able to use the kitchen or bathrooms if these areas will be done, some clients go and stay with their friends or relatives when the work is being done.

You can always schedule the work to be done when you are not going to be in your property for a while like on vacation, business trip, etc., is really nice to come back to your place and find it looking the way you want it.

Some clients are afraid that after the drywall re-texture is done the ceilings or walls are going to be really thick and the wall trim or other stuff is going to be almost covered and the truth is that the skim coating plus the new texture is not going to be that thick.

We apply the least amount of drywall mud to cover the old texture and then the new texture is like 1/8 thick or thicker if you want it, the lighter the texture that you have right now the least amount of drywall mud that we have to use to erase it, most of the time you will not notice a change of the thickness of the walls or ceilings.

Yes before any work is started the area close to the areas that need to be re-textured everything will be protected like the furniture, floors, doors, windows, trim, etc. will be covered.

Yes we can do it, we can use the primer and paint supplied by you or you can tell us what color and sheen you want and we can go to the store and get it for you, this is easier for us since we will have everything protected already and we can give you a good price since we are saving the step of going and protecting and moving stuff out of the way to do the work.
